Building Homes, Changing Lives

At Gibson County Habitat for Humanity, we work together with hardworking families to create safe, affordable homes that foster hope, stability and a stronger community.
Gibson County Habitat builds new homes for qualified applicants. These homes are then sold to qualified applicants through a variety of home mortgage financing programs.

Frequently asked questions
Does Habitat Give Houses away?
No.
Our programs are designed to help hardworking families that meet the qualifications and the needs for the houses that we built. Each family is required to perform a combination of construction related activities and attend homeowner education classes that are part of the qualification process.
Who Qualifies for New Houses construction?
Hardworking families that have a total household income of 60% and less than 80% of the median income for the area, with a credit score of 640 or more and meet the debt-to-income ratio limit of less than 43%.
Other requirements include demonstrating a need for decent housing, the ability and willingness to make the mortgage payments, assisting in the home construction activities and completing the required Homeownership Education classes.
How are we Funded?
We rely on the generosity and compassion of local individuals and our business sponsors for the monetary donations that fund our mission. While Gibson County Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, we operate completely independent of HFHI.
We do apply for various state and federal housing grants through THDA and HUD when they become available.
How Are Families Selected?
Our Homeowner Support Services Committee reviews all applications and associated documents, verifies applicants needs and conducts interviews with applicants.
The committee then makes recommendations to the board of directors. The board of directors make the final determination and the selection of the most qualified family from all qualified applicants.
