What We Do

Habitat for Humanity works in more than 70 countries – we have helped more than 59 million people improve their living conditions since 1976. Habitat works together with families, local communities, volunteers and partners from around the world so that more people are able to live in affordable and safe homes. Our advocacy efforts focus on policy reform to remove systemic barriers preventing low-income and historically underserved families from accessing adequate, affordable shelter.

About our organization

Habitat for Humanity partners with people in your community, and all over the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families. Through our 2020 Strategic Plan, Habitat for Humanity will serve more people than ever before through decent and affordable housing.

Bridging the housing gap

Habitat for Humanity plays a crucial role in bridging the gap to affordable housing by addressing the needs of families and individuals who struggle to find stable and affordable accommodations. As a nonprofit organization, we emphasizes community involvement and volunteerism, encouraging people from all walks of life to participate in building homes for those in need.

One of the key strategies employed by Habitat for Humanity is their partnership model, which involves working with future homeowners to build or improve their homes. This model not only provides affordable housing but also instills a sense of ownership and pride among the families who contribute their sweat equity in the construction process.

Moreover, we offers financial education and support services to ensure that homeowners are equipped with the necessary knowledge to maintain their homes and manage their finances effectively. This holistic approach enhances the sustainability of the housing solutions provided, reducing the risk of future displacement.

Through collaborations with local governments, businesses, and volunteers, Habitat for Humanity is able to leverage resources and expertise to maximize their impact. By advocating for policies that promote accessible housing and raising awareness about the significance of affordable housing, they continue to make strides in addressing the housing crisis on a global scale.

In essence, Habitat for Humanity not only builds houses but also builds hope and opportunity, empowering communities to thrive and fostering a more equitable society where everyone has a decent place to live.
